Groundwater
Let's Talk About Groundwater Resources
Groundwater resources in the Mid-South region are remarkable and considered a high-quality resource, some of the best in the world. Underlying portions of eight states, the Mississippi embayment offers prolific, high-quality groundwater to cities, towns, agriculture, and industry through alternating layers of multiple aquifers and confining units with various names depending on location.
As other regions struggle with dwindling water resources, groundwater production from the embayment aquifers remains, for the most part, a dependable resource. Yet we recognize that all resources are vulnerable, so we seek to ensure the long-term sustainability of our groundwater resources by preventing overexploitation and deterioration of quality.
